San Francisco 49ers president of football operations and general manager John Lynch has a reputation for being open to trades and acquisitions, and one name that has been mentioned as a potential target is Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby. According to NFL insider Albert Breer, Crosby would provide a much-needed boost to the 49ers' defensive line, but Breer suggests that the team should wait to see how their core performs before making a move. With the 49ers' defensive line finishing last in team sacks during the 2025 NFL season, adding Crosby's 69.5 career sacks would be a significant upgrade. However, former AP Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa and 2025 first-round draft pick Mykel Williams are both set to return from ACL injuries during the 2026 season, so waiting to trade for Crosby later in the year may make sense. San Francisco also acquired defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa from the Dallas Cowboys during the offseason, so the overall front four shows a lot of promise. But if new 49ers defensive coordinator Raheem Morris' group underperforms before the NFL trade deadline, it will come as no surprise if Lynch and Co. give Las Vegas a call for Crosby. In early March, the Raiders had agreed to trade Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens in a blockbuster deal, but due to a failed physical, the Ravens backed out of the trade agreement, keeping the star edge rusher in Las Vegas. Crosby has recorded 278 solo tackles, 164 quarterback hits, and 11 forced fumbles in 110 regular-season games with the Raiders. If the 49ers are 6-1 and the Raiders are 1-6, and Crosby is balling out, that's when Lynch might think about picking up the phone. But for now, it seems like the 49ers are taking a wait-and-see approach with Crosby.
